First of all I am really sorry for all this happening to you. Unfortunately, this is happening more and more since the anti-dowry laws have been made which are so ridiculous. Females get the credit of being innocence from our society even if they are not. All they need to do is be 1. somewhat beautiful, 2. sob in society and 3. be young and everybody on the earth thinks that they are "poor , innocent girl" ..even if they are perfect culprits.

I tried and tried, gave up... only to try again, to open the damned window. Finally, with help from my neighbours I was able to get the window open. Nice cool air came in. Everything was perfect. Then suddenly it happened. The train was entering Ghaziabad, there were these slumdogs aiming cow dung at the train. Needless to say, I got hit and totally covered with shit literally. :eek:

Why you need to support legal immigration reforms?
I am a legal immigrant to United States and my permanent residency application is pending because of the backlogs in the current immigration system. There is a combination of factors leading to the current backlog in the legal immigration system. Periodic legalization of illegal aliens, lack of sufficient resources to process applications, procedural inefficiencies and poor understanding of legal immigration problems by congressional representatives are some of the contributory factors.
Current immigration reform is primarily focused on illegal immigration reform. Typically, legal immigration is folded into a bill/Act which primarily supports illegal immigration. It is crucial that the contributions of legal immigrants be appreciated. Highly skilled, legal immigration adds to scarce skills and training in the American workforce. They improve productivity and quality of work to keep America competitive. These immigrants also pay taxes at higher rates. Further they are not entitled to most of their social security benefits unless they have worked for a certain number of years in USA. Legal immigrants act as role models by respecting the law and playing the role of responsible citizens. They act as safe anchors to curb outsourcing by providing foreign talent locally. An average legal immigrant integrates easily into the American social cauldron, is law abiding and is favorable towards charity and social participation.
Now that you have a decent appreciation of legal immigrant contributions, let us take a look at the problems faced by them. It takes anywhere between 6-8 years on an average to process permanent residency applications of legal immigrants. During majority of this 6-8 year period,
1) Legal immigrants cannot change employers and/or job title
2) Spouses of legal immigrants cannot work unless they have separate work authorization
3) All major financial and career decisions are on a hold
4) Children of legal immigrants are unable to earn certain education benefits available to permanent residents/citizens
5) Immigrants are reluctant to visit their home countries because of increased scrutiny at the border due to the lack of permanent residency/citizenship privileges. There is no assurance that the immigrant will be able to re-enter USA
6) Work and Travel Permits need to be renewed every year i.e. new fees are charged by USCIS each year for renewal. This step not only involves financial cost but also induces fresh anxiety about whether the permits will be approved without problems and on time.
Due to lack of sufficient visa availability, legal immigrant applications are backed up solid. An important factor responsible for current backlogs is inefficient processing of applications. USCIS, FBI and Department of Labor are trying their best to cope with the huge immigration backlog work. However, some processes move faster while others take unreasonably long time. Efficiency in one process is compensated by complete lack of efficiency in some other processes. The cumulative effect of these factors is tremendous frustration among legal immigrants. Many of these immigrants are actively looking for work in other countries where immigration laws are favorable to legal immigration and advanced skills are in demand. Compared to USA, time taken for obtaining permanent residency in some countries is approximately 75-80 percent shorter.
Lately, an awareness campaign has been launched by Immigration Voice (a 5,500 member group representing highly skilled, legal immigrants). Immigration Voice represents more than 500,000 bright and innovative minds in the country. As a result of Immigration Voice’s campaign and the ongoing immigration debate, some politicians have a better understanding and appreciation of legal immigration issues. Accordingly, the SKIL bill was introduced by Senator Cornyn and Kyl in the Senate and recently this bill was also introduced in the House of Representatives. The SKIL bill supports reform in the legal immigration system. Due to the current deadlock in the senate and house over Comprehensive Immigration Reform, relief for legal immigrants is nowhere in sight. Will the average American citizen stand up and support this law abiding means of immigration? Or will the average legal immigrant fall victim to the vicious campaign of anti-immigrant extremism? The American public must take a stand and defend the American dream.

I had 2 queries when the case was pending with the state labour office before being shipped to BEC.
The issues were related to low wages and insufficient experience. The company fixed the issues and ammended the Labour petition.
Will that cause a problem when it comes to the approval stage? Again, will that negatively affect I-140?

c. March 2011 - Went for an Infopass Appointment (Useless in my opinion too) They said as your 140 is in TSC and 485 is in NSC that is why its taking time and they don't know how much more time will it take
d. April 2011 - Contacted Senator and got a reply that they have contacted NSC and will let us know their response as soon as they get one
e. Late April 2011 - Sent emails to NSC update, TSC update and TSC auto-current-date address
f. Early May 2011 - Contacted Congressman
6. Approval - Occurred the evening Congressman called NSC
a. Mid May 2011 - CPO email and cards within a week

Many of the H1B's are so involved in their work , they really donot follow their green card procedure and pressure their employers for better deal on filing their papers even when they have the chance.
New H1B's coming into the country should be given some guidance on the permanent residency process so that they donot end up like many of us in the forum waiting for years to get their residency.

Its all politics my dear. Dont take the votes as it is. All these are eyewash and most of it were decided even before they vote. Why you think they have minority and majoirty leader. Those are the key people along with certain key senators / congressmens.
Election is the major event which affects everyone in the senate or congress. First eveyone wants to please their constituents and win and retain their seat. This is the first and foremost priority than passing the SKIL bill at this time. Be practical and I myself will do the same if I were a politician.

So the smart senator will force more jobs to be outsourced. These jobs will never comeback once gone. If we look back at the 2000 recession, it caused a major shift in the way US companies looked at outsourcing. Pre-2000 many companies didn't believe that all jobs could be outsourced. 2000 recession forced them to think otherwise.
These kind of bills will cause a re-thinking in corporate america's thought process. They will think of creative ways to outsource. Against this senator's hopes, it will reduce jobs here.

We can't just poke around an established government agency because we feel they are not doing their job properly.
What do you (You refers to people who think above, not one in particular) say about the people who filed lawsuit and got the 180 day Name check rule to implementation faster? Not that I am proposing lawsuits, just an example to disprove what you said.
I am trying to figure out what you guys are trying to say. If you guys think that CIS will give you the GC on the day they will feel like and you are cool with it, Why even hopping around boards either for information or anything. Just follow the processing times and see whether number has been called or not. 99% of the crowd thinks here that we can get a better policy by making our voice heard. Correct me if I am wrong, ---but I thought that "This Ammendment" was attached to a defence bill. I dont think that it was the ammendment that was shot down, but the whole defence bill.

This particular Cornyn amendment (S.Amdt. 2339) offered to attach to H.R. 2669 (College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 ), but the motion was failed due to lack of 5 votes.(55 YEAS and 40 NAYs. Require 3/5 majority) HR.2669 is passed by both Senate and house and sent for conference to resolve the difference between house and senate versions and president is sure to sign the bill and thus would become the law in another few days. This amendment does not have anything to do with defence bill or with SKILL bill. Following is the actions taken by congress of HR 2669.

This particular Cornyn amendment (S.Amdt. 2339) offered to attach to H.R. 2669 (College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 ), but the motion was failed due to lack of 5 votes.(55 YEAS and 40 NAYs. Require 3/5 majority) HR.2669 is passed by both Senate and house and sent for conference to resolve the difference between house and senate versions and president is sure to sign the bill and thus would become the law in another few days.
